Get your laugh on with these comedy shows this June, plus check out our upcoming workshops!

Mostly Jokes: On Wednesday, June 4, comedian Aaron Foster brings his award winning and darkly funny "Mostly Jokes" show to Santa Cruz for one night only as he prepares to tape it as his first special later this year. "Mostly Jokes" was named "Best Solo Show" at the Tucson Fringe Festival in January and has received reviews such as: "A laugh every twenty seconds." "I've never laughed so hard about mental health." "Subversively hilarious, laugh out loud gallows humor." Foster, who grew up with a bipolar father and a schizophrenic brother, is the former host of HGTV’s FreeStyle who turned to stand up to manage his survivor's guilt, depression and anxiety. He has performed at clubs all over the West Coast and has been touring this show for the past year. Doors open at 7:30, show starts at 8 and runs about 75-80 minutes with no intermission, and the performer promises: NO CROWD WORK. Get tickets HERE.

Dangerous Neighbors: The comedy continues on Fridays and Saturdays, June 13, 14, 20 and 21, when sketch comedy troupe Dangerous Neighbors presents "Deflating Fascism." The Neighbors have been tickling funny bones in the Bay Area for over three decades, featuring writer Bill Burman's irreverent and satirical take on culture, current issues, and the absurdities of modern life. This benefit show for Indivisible Santa Cruz County explores everything from cell-phone driven family life, to marriage counseling with emotional surrogate puppets, January 6 apologists, and suburban satanists. Because we might as well laugh about it... The show features Neighbors regulars Bill Burman, Suzanne Schrag and Bob Vickers, along with new neighbors Ann McCormick Vickers and Jonathan Carter Schall, with live music provided by Bob Vickers, Mark Becker and Matt Bohn.
Upcoming Workshops:
The Actor's Toolbox - Starting Monday, June 23, this 6-session class is designed to give actors at all levels concrete techniques they can use to explore and deepen their work physically, vocally and textually. Christopher Peak and Suzanne Schrag team up to help actors build their craft and enhance their performances. Each session will explore a specific technique to lead to greater freedom of expression in your body, voice and intention. June 23, 30, July 7, 21, 28 and August 4, from 6:30 to 9 pm. Learn more and sign up HERE.
***JUST ADDED*** Collaborative Directing - On Saturday, July 26, from 10 to 4:30, this one-day workshop with Cathy Warner and Greg Fritsch is designed for directors and actors to experience and explore what it means to co-direct, and the unique opportunities presented by a collaborative approach. The class will provide a learning opportunity for directors and actors to reflect and share approaches to directing, experiment with co-directing, and observe the rehearsal process of other directors and co-directors. Informal auditions for participants will be held July 9 from 1:30 to 3 and 6 to 7:30 to allow the instructors to select scenes that best meet participants' goals and work for the size of the group. Learn more and sign up HERE.
Writing Your 10-Minute Play - There are just a few spots left in this 4-week workshop with Wilma Marcus Chandler, starting Saturday, September 20. Topics will include developing your ideas, characters, plot lines, settings, style and genre, pitfalls, script formatting, table reads and submission opportunities. Learn more and sign up HERE.
