'Tis the Season! Great Plays Coming Your Way in 23/24...

Actors' Theatre is very excited to announce our first full season since you-know-what happened.

Opening this October on Friday the 13th, Miguel Reyna directs The Thin Place by Lucas Hnath, one of today's most innovative and exciting playwrights. The story of the friendship between a veteran medium and a woman grappling with loss who is seeking answers that lie across the fragile boundary between our world and the next, Hnath's play transforms the theater into a spooky and intimate séance, crafting an unnerving testament to the power of the mind. The Thin Place plays Thursdays through Sundays from October 13 though 29, with a special closing performance on Halloween night. (“The Thin Place” is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Samuel French, Inc. www.concordtheatricals.com)

Then, of course, in January 2024, the 8 Tens @ 8 Festival returns with another smorgasbord of short-play goodness. This year's winners have been chosen out of 300 submissions from playwrights across the country, and even some from across the seas. With 16 different plays, presented in two separate evenings, there's sure to be something suited to everyone's theatrical taste. Both Part 1 and Part 2 of the Festival are included in the season subscription. The 8 Tens @ 8 Festival opens January 19, 2024, and runs through February 18.

The final play of our 23/24 Season is an exciting collaboration between Actors' Theatre and Soaring Dragon Endeavors. We are so pleased that we will be bringing Steve "Spike" Wong's original play White Sky, Falling Dragon, which had its world premiere last fall in Mountain View, along with the original cast back to the stage for Santa Cruz audiences to savor. Inspired by Spike’s own father, Captain Ernest Wong, USAAF, the play tells the story of a young Chinese-American man's return to small town Watsonville, California, in 1944 after his WWII service as a bombardier. As he struggles to come to terms with the tragedy of his last mission, his Chinese family obligations clash with his search for a path to his future, and the way forward depends on a secret from the past. With its focus on Chinese-American culture, immigration, and military service during wartime, the play is a unique blend of drama and comedy, and a moving tribute to the complexities of what it means to come home. Playing April 19 through May 5, with both Saturday and Sunday matinee performances.

Season tickets and individual tickets for The Thin Place are on sale now. Visit our Tickets page for more information and to purchase.

Individual tickets for 8 Tens @ 8 will go on sale November 24, and individual tickets for White Sky, Falling Dragon will be available starting March 1. We will also continue to offer two-for-one pricing on Thursdays for each show individually.
