Rebooted... and it feels SO good!
There’s always a feeling of excitement and anticipation the week before a show opens. When it’s the first live production in over two and a half years, those feelings are mixed with hope, a little disbelief, and the frequent thought, “I can’t believe we’re actually getting to do this again!” All of that excitement came to a head last weekend when we opened the "Reboot" of the 2022 8 Tens @ 8 Festival, which had to be cancelled before it could open last January due to the winter Covid surge.
Eight of the 16 plays from last January are back (with a few new cast members due to original actors no longer being available) and have come together in a very heartfelt evening of theater, made even sweeter by the gratitude all of us who’ve been involved in the Reboot feel to once again be able to practice this art form that we love and share it with an audience.
From sound designer Davis Banta coming in despite being in the middle of tech week for another production to shuffle the sound cues, to the directors who gathered to haul props and set pieces from storage, to the actors helping with set changes because our usual fabulous stage crew are busy with other projects, the Reboot has been a group effort and a labor of love for our Actors’ Theatre community. And the reward is getting to tell these stories once again—this time in person—for our audience.
The Reboot plays for three more weekends, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm, and Sundays at 2 pm through October 2nd. We’d love to have you join us to welcome live theater back to Center Stage!
Tickets are $38 general, $35 student/senior, and can be purchased from the Actors' Theatre website at https://www.santacruzactorstheatre.org/tickets
